      LEAGUE 2    2016/17

Leading League goalscorers:
John Akinde (Barnet)
&
John Marquis
(Doncaster Rovers)
26 goals each

Andy Hessenthaler of Leyton Orient had the unfortunate distinction of becoming the first League manager to be sacked in 2016/17. He lasted 52 days into the season which sounds quick to me but it was the longest wait for the first managerial sacking in the League for 50 years since Glyn Davies was sacked by Swansea Town after 60 days in 1966/67.

Most weeks seem to be crap but just a few can be brilliant. In one week a little before Christmas Wycombe Wanderers were able to repay a debt of around £1 million to former owner Steve Hayes thanks to a sell-on clause for former player Jordon Ibe. They then received a 'substantial' donation from  Hayes and won 5-0 away to League 1 Chesterfield in the FA Cup, their sixth first-team win on the trot. Not bad!

Barnet's John Akinde put his side 1-0 up against Newport County at Rodney Parade after just 23 seconds. But it counted for nothing with the early-season match being abandoned at half time due to a waterlogged pitch.
Abandoned matches.
