Leading League goalscorer:
Sam Marsh
(Bolton Wanderers)
 27  goals

Bolton's Sam Marsh finished top scorer in Division 2 matches in the 1904/05 season, his 27 goals helping Bolton to a second place finish and promotion back to the top flight. He joined Bolton in 1902 and in his 10 years at the club scored 81 goals in 201 first team appearances. The 27 League goals he scored in 1904/05 was his best total before moving on to Bury in 1912. He made just 3 League appearances for Bury before announcing his retirement from League football.

Manchester United set a new Football League record when winning 14 consecutive League matches in a season (results). That record still stands although it is now shared with Bristol City (1905/06 - results) and Preston North End (1950/51 - results).

It wasn't just Manchester United who made the record books during the season - Doncaster Rovers did too. But for them it wasn't a record of success! Their worst run saw them lose 9 League matches on the trot and they lost every one of their 17 away Division 2 matches in 1904/05. Doncaster equalled the record lowest points total of 8 for the season set by Loughborough in Division 2 in 1899/1900. That record still stands and surely it will never be  lost to another club with 3 points for a win nowadays!

There were two election votes at the AGM, the first based on the fact that both Divisions 1 and 2 were to continue with 18 clubs each. Voting -

25 votes Leeds City Elected to the League
21 Burslem Port Vale Re-elected to the League
20 Chelsea Elected to the League
18 Hull City+ Not elected to the League
10 Burton United+ Not re-elected to the League
10 Crewe Alexandra Not elected to the League
4 Doncaster Rovers+ Not re-elected to the League
3 Stockport County+ Not elected to the League
1 Clapton Orient+ Not elected to the League

+  Shortly after that vote it was decided that each division would increase by two clubs. In the First Division this was achieved by reprieving the two relegated clubs. This left four vacancies in the Second Division with the vote being between the two clubs who had previously not been re-elected plus three of the non-league sides who had originally failed in their bid for election. Voting -

36 votes Burton United Now re-elected to the League
36 Hull City Elected to the League
26 Clapton Orient Elected to the League
26 Stockport County Elected to the League
20 Doncaster Rovers Again not re-elected to the League
