The match between Derby and Blackburn Rovers on Sunday March 8th proved to be the last fixture played in the Championship for over 3 months due to the coronavirus pandemic. League 1 and League 2 later abandoned the remainder of their league programmes but Championship matches resumed on Saturday June 20th with matches being played behind closed doors.

When a club finishes a season with just 1 defeat in 15 League matches - a run that includes an 8-0 victory which was the season's top score in the division - you would think it was promotion form, but Wigan were relegated - controversially! In fact playing form saw Wigan finish comfortably in mid-table but at the start of June new owners took over the club  - owners who passed the League's 'fit and proper' test - but less than a month later they put Wigan Athletic into administration. That saw the Latics get an automatic 12 point penalty and they were relegated, reprieving Barnsley from the drop. But was that an injustice?
