The two newcomers to the Football League - Crawley and AFC Wimbledon - kicked off the new domestic season in a Carling Cup Preliminary Round tie played on Friday July 29th. Last seasons Conference champions Crawley defeated the runners-up by the odd goal in five.

Having not made the first team at Birmingham goalkeeper
Jack Butland
spent the season on loan at Cheltenham Town. He made his League debut on 10th September against Macclesfield and made 24  appearances during the season for the Robins. At the end of the season he was included in the England squad for Euro 2012.
