      LEAGUE 2    2009/10

Leading League goalscorer:
Lee Hughes
 (Notts County)
 30  goals

An eventful season at Meadow Lane. Sol Campbell (reputedly on £40,000 per week) lasted one match, Sven Goran Eriksson was at the club a bit longer, two winding up petitions from HMRC were survived and there were a succession of managers and owners. But at the end of it Notts County were crowned as champions of the division.

Rochdale gained promotion for only the second time in their 82 season Football League career.

For the first time in over a century the town of Burton has a club in the Football League again - Burton Albion following on from Burton Swifts, Burton United and Burton Wanderers.  Burton lost their debut match - 1-3 at Shrewsbury on Saturday August 8th 2009. Later in the season, on Saturday 13th March 2010,  nine second half goals were scored at their Pirelli Stadium when visitors Cheltenham Town beat Burton 6-5 in a League 2 fixture.
