      LEAGUE 2    2006/07

Leading League goalscorers:
Richard Barker
(Hartlepool United - 12 for Mansfield Town) &
Izale McLeod
(Milton Keynes Dons)
21 goals each

Just six seasons after playing in an FA Cup semi-final, Wycombe Wanderers reach the semi-final of the Carling Cup (League Cup). Chelsea beat them 5-1 over two legs.

Bury beat fellow League 2 side Chester City in an FA Cup Second Round replay but were expelled from the competition for fielding an ineligible player. Full story.

For the fifth season in a row Lincoln City reached the play-offs - but for the fifth time they also failed to make it out of the division.

Stockport County set a new League record by winning 9 League matches on the trot without conceding a goal. But in their next four matches they let in 15 goals, including a 2-7 home defeat against Rochdale.

Boston United ended their five-season League membership the same way as they started it - with a points deduction. Going into their last match the financially-stricken  Lincolnshire side had a chance to avoid the drop if they could win at Wrexham. But when that became unlikely they went into administration during the match itself with only minutes remaining of the season so as to suffer their 10 point penalty this season rather than next. The ploy worked - 10 points were deducted this season but sadly for the Pilgrims their financial position was so bad they dropped two divisions - to the Conference North - for 2007/08.
