An era ended at Portman Road, Ipswich, on Saturday 8th May 1993. Brian Clough took charge of his last match to end a long career in football which was usually brilliant, occasionally disastrous but always amazingly interesting. Love him or hate him it was sad to see him leave on a low - his Nottingham Forest side were already relegated by the time of his last match. Defeat at Ipswich confirmed their distant bottom place in the inaugural Premier League - in his hey-day a competition he would have doubtless won a time or two. So a brief tribute in the Ipswich programme - printed right - ended the career of the the 'greatest manager England never had' and football became a little less interesting!

Brian Clough quotes.

Question:

Virginia Wade was Wimbledon champion, Geoff Boycott scored his 100th hundred at Headingley, Red Rum won the Grand National for the third time and Liverpool won the European Cup for the first time. All in the same year - which year?
