  Leading League goalscorer:
Mickey Walsh
 (Blackpool)
 26  goals

Seems like a dream now but in 1976/77 you could watch a Fulham team that included George Best, Bobby Moore and Rodney Marsh. But even with that trio they only narrowly avoided relegation.  Moore and Marsh played their final League matches during the season but Best remained at the Cottage for one more season.

Red and yellow cards were used for the first time in the Football League

A player scoring for both sides is rare but on Saturday September 25th 1976 it happened twice in the Second Division. Colin Franks of Sheffield United scored both goals in the 1-1 draw between Sheffield United and Blackburn and Plymouth's Paul Mariner did the same in the 1-1 draw between Plymouth Argyle and Bolton.
