A New Year sensation at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea manager Dave Sexton dropped Peter Osgood and Alan Hudson from the team for the New Year's Day match at Sheffield United and told them to train with the reserves. On the morning of January 3rd Sexton included the two players in the squad for the FA Cup tie with QPR two days later. Both players refuse to be part of the squad and are immediately suspended for a week to which they respond by asking for transfers. The transfer requests were granted and neither played for Chelsea again, Hudson moving to Stoke City and Osgood to Southampton.
