Carlisle's disappointment in the League was matched in the FA Cup. Their 1-6 home First Round defeat to Cheshire League side Wigan Athletic was the worst home defeat by a League side against a non-league club in the competition. That record still stands, although the scoreline was matched in the Derby County v Boston United tie in 1955/56.
