  Leading League goalscorer:
Jimmy McConnell
 (Carlisle United)
 43  goals

Bradford City started the season with a 11-1 home victory over Rotherham United and went on to score a record 128 League goals in the season. Their victory over Rotherham is still their record League score. However Aston Villa matched that total in 1930/31but the total was not bettered until Peterborough United scored 134 goals in their first League season in 1960/61.

An injury to regular Halifax Town keeper Howard Matthews - a sprightly 43 year old - saw trainer Bob Suter forced out of a 7-year retirement to play two matches in goal for the Shaymen in April 1929. He was just 3 months short of his 51st birthday and so became the second-oldest player ever to appear in the Football League.

Nelson didn't take part in the FA Cup in 1928/29 - they hadn't got their entry in by the deadline date!
