  Leading League goalscorer:
Jimmy Cookson
 (Chesterfield)
 44  goals

A seemingly small change in the offside rule brought a dramatic increase in goals scored. The number of opponents needed to keep a player onside was reduced from 3 to 2.  As a result the total number of goals scored in Division 3 (North) increased from 1320 in 1924/25 to 1628, up by almost a quarter. There were some amazing individual results - for example at home Hartlepools beat Walsall 9-3, New Brighton 6-1, Accrington 5-1 and both Southport and Wrexham 5-0 but away lost 0-6 at Rochdale and 2-5 at Chesterfield, Coventry and Nelson!

The 44 League goals scored by Chesterfield's Jimmy Cookson was a new League goalscoring record, beating Darlington's David Brown who scored 39 in the previous season.
