* Aberdare's election to the Football League came too late to see them exempted to a later round of the FA Cup which meant that they started out in the competition early and were forced to play an FA Cup match a a League fixture on the same day. The same problem faced the other club elected with Aberdare to the League in 1921/22 - Charlton Athletic - but they decided to withdraw from the competition rather than attempt to play through 8 qualifying rounds to reach the First Round proper!
