      VANARAMA NATIONAL LEAGUE
2021/22

Leading League goalscorer:
Paul Mullin
(Wrexham)
 26 goals

Tickets were just £5 for adults and £1 for kids at the Notts County v Solihull Moors match in November 2021...and as a result a record National League crowd turned up at Meadow Lane. The 12,843 attendance topped the previous record of 11,085 set by Bristol Rovers in 2015.

Boreham Wood were the most successful non-leaguers in the FA Cup reaching the 5th Round. A 2-0 home Third Round victory over League 1 side AFC Wimbledon was followed in the Fourth Round with a 1-0 win at Bournemouth - Bournemouth were to win a place in the Premier League at the seasons end. The 5th Round saw them lose 2-0 at Everton in front of a 38,836 sell-out Goodison crowd.

Dropping a division National League North side Kidderminster Harriers also had a memorable season. They missed out on promotion having been beaten in the play-offs but beat Championship side Reading on their way to the Fourth Round of the FA Cup. In the Fourth Round they were at home to West Ham United and took the lead against the Premier League side in the 19th minute. They were seconds away from winning the match - then West Ham equalised in added time. Extra time followed with the Londoners getting the winner in the 121st minute. A match I'm sure none of the 5, 327 present at Aggborough will forget in a hurry!

Champions Stockport County were promoted back to the Football League as were Grimsby Town who won the play-offs. Relegated from the Football League to the National League were Oldham Athletic and Scunthorpe United.

King's Lynn were relegated to the National League North and Dover and Weymouth to the National League South. Promoted to the National League were Gateshead and York from the North and Maidstone United and Dorking Wanderers from the South. This extra promoted club brought the National League membership back up to its full compliment of 24.

* Dover started the season with a 12 point deduction after not completing their league fixtures in 2020/21. They completed their fixtures in 2021/22 but picked up just 13 league giving them just a single point for the whole season! 2020/21 National League
