Shrewsbury Town won their Football League place back after just one season in the Conference but it was nail-biting stuff with the Shrews winning both their Play Off final and semi-final by penalties.

    Promoted Champions Chester City were promoted automatically to the Football League, Promoted Shrewsbury Town regained their Football League place through the Conference play-offs. Carlisle United and York City were relegated to the Conference from the Football League.

* Burton had one point deducted for fielding an ineligible player.
** The bottom three clubs all escaped relegation. Farnborough were saved from relegation as the Unibond League's candidates for promotion (champions Hucknall Town and runners-up Droylsden) did not have grounds that met Conference requirements. Leigh RMI and Northwich Victoria were saved when financial problems saw Telford United and Margate unable to compete in the Conference in 2004/05.
