The European Super Cup  match was between the 1990/91 winners of the European Cup, Red Star Belgrade, and European Cup Winners' Cup, Manchester United. Because of the security situation in Yugoslavia the destination of the trophy was decided in a single match played at Manchester United's Old Trafford ground.
