The Charity Shield match was between the 1921/22 Football League champions, Liverpool, and the FA Cup winners of 1921/22, Huddersfield Town. The match was played at the end of the season in which they won their honours. For the first time both competing clubs were from the north and so the venue moved out of London for the first time. It was the last time that the Charity Shield match was played at the end of a season.
