| Burton Wanderers failed to gain re-election at the end of the 1896/97 season (Luton Town took their place - voting details). They returned to the Midland League and competed in it to the end of the 1900/01 season when they merged with League side Burton Swifts. The newly-named Burton United competed in Division 2 of the Football League for six more seasons (Burton United record) and their reserve side competed in the Midland League. | |||||||||||||||
