Ever since they joined the Football League in 1960/61 and scored a record 134 League goals in their first season Peterborough United have had a reputation as goalscorers. On Tuesday December 8th 2009 Posh drew a Championship match at Ipswich 0-0 and then followed 171 matches played by the club in League and Cup (FA Cup, League Cup, JP Trophy) without recording another no-score draw. Coincidentally the run ended against Ipswich again in a Championship match at London Road played on Saturday March 9th 2013. But as well as scoring goals Posh have let in a few as well and the stats show the greater credit for that run needs to go to the opposition who scored 299 goals in those 171 matches compared to Posh's 284 goals. The total of 583 goals was at an average of 3.4 goals a match. The 171 matches saw Posh win 61 times, 28 were drawn with Posh being defeated 82 times.

Almost as a trial run, before Posh drew 0-0 with Ipswich in the match which preceded the start of the sequence Posh had gone 44 League and cup matches without a 0-0 draw dating back to a goalless draw with Milton Keynes Dons in a League 1 fixture at London Road on Tuesday January 20th 2009. So looking only at matches at London Road between January 20th 2009 and March 9th 2013 a season ticket holder at London Road wouldn't have seen a 0-0 draw - not a bad record!
