If clubs finished level on points -
 Up to and including the 1975/76 season when clubs finished equal on points the higher placed was the one with the better goal average (goals scored divided by goals conceded). From the 1976/77 season goal difference (goals scored minus goals conceded) was the determining factor except from season 1992/93 to 1998/99 (inclusive) when Divisions 1, 2 and 3 used highest goals scored to rank clubs equal on points.
