Ironically after losing their first match of the season, 5-1 against Manchester United, Bristol City went on to win their next 14 matches (results) to equal Manchester United's record (results) set the previous season of 14 consecutive League wins within a season. Those clubs still hold that record although it is also now shared with Preston in 1950/51 (results).

League new-boys Chelsea were required to play 2 matches on Saturday November 18th 1905. Their first team beat Burnley in the League but their reserves lost 7-1 at Southern League Crystal Palace in the FA Cup - still the record defeat by a League side against non-league opposition in the FA Cup.
